About
Hi, I'm Liz Sterry, and this little site is where I write down what I've learned about the boring, important side of looking after your teeth.
I didn't grow up caring about any of this. For most of my twenties and thirties I brushed in a hurry, never flossed, ignored the odd bit of blood in the sink, and assumed my teeth would sort themselves out. They mostly did, until they didn't, and a few uncomfortable dental visits later I decided to actually understand what was going on in my own mouth. This blog is the result: the plain-English version of what I wish someone had told me sooner.
I write about the everyday stuff, because that's where most of the difference is made. How to build a flossing habit that lasts. Whether the fancy toothbrush is worth it. What bleeding gums are trying to tell you. How to read a toothpaste label. Why a dry mouth is a bigger deal than it feels like. What really happens at a checkup. None of it is dramatic. All of it adds up.
My promise to you is that I keep it honest and grounded. I read reputable sources, I stick to the broad consensus rather than fads, and I try never to oversell anything, because your mouth doesn't need marketing, it needs consistency.
One important thing, and I'll say it on every page if I have to. I'm not a dentist, a hygienist, or any kind of medical professional. I'm an informed layperson sharing general information, not personal advice. Your mouth is yours alone, and nothing I write can replace a professional who can actually look inside it. If something's worrying you, or anything here raises a question about your own teeth, please go and see your own dentist. They're the ones who can tell you what's right for you.
